Dec 9, 2007 Study Hall/Exam Session

Read through the Questions & Just Right Answers a few times and then take practice exams on-line. Most people can pass the exam, getting at least 26/35 (you can miss 9 and still pass). These are the actual questions and answers, published by the FCC. We’re taking advantage of short-term memory by giving the exam immediately after you’ve studied.

This is a 'cram' approach, with more classes planned for new licensees to teach the basics and help them get on the air. There are also books available, so you can want to learn the “whys” and “wherefores.” Visit http://www.arrl.org/catalog/lm/  to get more info. But you will be able to pass this exam by just reading the Questions & Just Right Answers.

We just want to make sure that you get your license and get on the air – most of what you need to know you’ll learn by doing.

We'll start at 10am at the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station in Agoura and have a 15 minute lecture/demonstration and 45 minutes of reading on your own every hour, with the exam at 2pm. Most people will complete the exam in 15 – 20 minutes, but the paperwork may take us a while since we need to do meticulous accounting to avoid delays in processing. Pass rates have been in the high 90s - the last one was 100%. The exam fee is $4, and you can take the exam a second time for another $4.

Bring your drivers license and/or passport for ID. Youngsters will need a school ID card plus a parent to vouch for them.

Assemble in the lobby at the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station, 27050 Agoura Road, Agoura, CA 91301, at 9:45am and we’ll escort everyone down to the Assembly Room.
